Room 238, Thursday early afternoon

Aeryn's learned one really important lesson in the last year or so, namely that there is a big difference between random emo and dealing with the fallout of being under a lot of stress. And despite yesterday's talk, she's okay with taking some extra time to do her usual run around the preserve a second time. She'd had a lot of energy she just needed to burn off.

So she's in a better mood when she comes back to the room, though she's not sure how long that will last, if today's anything like yesterday.

John's dozing quietly on the couch for lack of anything better to do. The tv's on low and he's under a thin blanket.

She looks over to see him and decides to let him sleep, heading over to the closet for fresh clothes to change into after a shower.

He hears her come in and opens his eyes a little, staying still and quiet though.

She sees him when she turns around, greeting him with a quiet "Hi."

"Hey," he says, rubbing his eyes and blinking to wake himself up.

"I didn't mean to wake you," she says. "You can go back to sleep."

"I was just dozing," he says, sitting up and tossing the blanket aside.

She holds up the clothes a little and says, "I was just headed into the shower."

"Okay," he says. "I'll be here."

Aeryn kind of hates the uncomfortable-but-not way they act after talks like that, but she has to admit it's definitely a step up from hiding out and ignoring it for a few days until it's supposed to be better. This makes it easier to move forward.

She gives a little nod and heads into the bathroom, and half a minute later the water comes on.

John, on the other hand, has no idea what's going on. It's his perpetual state of confusion and he's beginning to hate that feeling.

He gets up in disgust, kicks at the blanket and stalks into the kitchen.

She doesn't take long, returning a few minutes later with different clothes and damp hair. "No classes today?" she asks.

"Nope," he says, opening a bottle of water and grabbing a sandwich from the fridge.

Of course that puts her in a tricky little place where neither of them has a solid reason to leave, and creating one if things are uncomfortable for too long will probably cause an argument.

"I'll learn schedules soon enough," she says, and walks over to feed the animals.

"Semester's still new," he says absently, staring at the counter.

"Right," she says. "I might take the DRD to do some maintenance on the Prowler later. If I have the time I should probably use it productively."

She kind of thinks she sucks for saying that.

He winces a little at that. "Okay. I drew all over Bertram yesterday but he should still work."

"You can come along if you'd like," she says, looking at him over her shoulder.

After a small pause, he shakes his head. "I'd get in your way."

"In the junkyard? Hardly."

He half smiles and says, "I should stick around here."

"Oh, yes, there's so much to do around here today," she says.

He frowns and asks, "What?"

"I just mean that if you have other plans, you should follow through with them," she says. This is going well.

"Other plans?"
