NPC pet store, mainland, Saturday evening

After visiting Luke, Aeryn had gone back to 238 where in conversation with John she'd somehow made mention of the fish-shaped fishbowl Isabel had gotten her for Christmas. This led to the trip to the mainland, to the store that Bruno had come from because they really need another NPC, and when Aeryn steps inside the store, she pauses for a second.

"This is what Fandom will look like the day everyone turns into an animal at once," she says.

"That's not gonna happen," he says and tugs on her hand.

"You can't say that for sure," she says, letting him tug her.

"We're here to get a fish, not talk about Fandom," he tells her, stopping to wave at the bunnies.

"To bring back to Fandom," she says. She has no idea why he's waving at bunnies. "You're sure this won't be too much?"

"It won't be too much," he says. "Bruno needs a friend."

"You realize it isn't like we can put this one in the same tank, right? If there's a such thing as fish communication, they'd have to manage it between glass."

"I know," he says and starts making faces at the bunnies.

She watches as one makes a tiny little hop closer to the glass. "Is that some form of communication?"

"No," he says. "It's just curious. Hi little guy!"

"We're not bringing home a bunny," she tells him.

"But they're so cute!"

"No bunny," she says, tugging on his sleeve. "Ignore them and their noses for now."

"Lookit how cute," he says, letting himself be tugged but making faces at the bunnies.

She tugs his hand again, passing by the ferrets. She has no idea what those are and she's not asking in case John wants one of those, too.

"You're no fun," he says, grumping along behind her.

"I agreed to dogs," she reminds him. "Next year. Where am I going?"

"Towards the back where you see all those glass things," he says, pointing it out to her.

"Right," she says, heading down the hamster aisle. She might blink and slow down. "Why would anyone own those?"

Suddenly, a bouncy boy in a blue smock bounds up to Aeryn.

"Can I help you?"

"No," she says, not sure why he's asking.

The bouncy boy in blue isn't deterred. "Do you have a hamster? I have a hamster. His name's Petey and I'd recommend anything in this aisle to keep top notch care of your hamster."

"Go away," she says.

The boy frowns. "You look lost. We have some delightful pooper scoopers on sale for half off!"

"I will hit you. Hard."

John chimes in this time. "Better listen to her. She will."

At that, the bouncy boy in a blue smock trudges away.

"Damn, Aeryn, you hurt his feelings."
