TGI Friday's, Cambridge, MA- Monday night

Aeryn's learned that some dates have meaning, that the time between one yearly milestone and the next can be a really big deal. Thinking from last August 13 to this one, making it through an entire year almost deserves a congratuations.

Which is why she's seriously pissed off that the little blonde bitch with the stupid name that she never remembers called in sick again and didn't get anyone to cover for her, which means Aeryn is pulling a double shift on her anniversary and trying really hard not to threaten customers or coworkers.

"That's not teasing. If I got up and kissed you, that would be teasing."

"We might have to save that for when I get off," she said, a little regretfully. Dammit.

"I could kiss you quick?"

She was definitely tempted. "I could get into trouble," she said.

"I don't want to get you into trouble." He's actually serious about that.

"Make up for it later," she said, squeezing his hand.

"Can do," he said and gave her a squeeze back.

She paused, like she was considering this, and also looking for her supervisor. "I might be able to get away early," she said.

In the Peacekeepers, she never would have dreamed of trying to skip out on something. This was not the Peacekeepers. This was torture in restaurant form.

"If you can, that'd be awesome," John said, eating another piece of his food. "We could go have cake of our own."

"No guarantees," she said. "But it looks like things have calmed down." And Mark might cover it it meant John would stop waving at him.

John grinned and said, "Go find out! And send Mark back over."

"I have a better idea," Aeryn said, and went straight to Mark.

Mark looked over at John, looked at Aeryn like he was wondering wtf, and finally nodded.

When Aeryn came back, she said, "After you're finished I'm going to be too sick to work."

John ate the last piece and said, "Done!"

"Let me close you out," she said, starting toward the cash register. "Leave them alone."

"Leave who alone?" John called.

She didn't hear that, which might have been a bad thing, going to get the check instead.

This time, John chucked a salt packet at Mark's back.

Mark paused, but didn't turn around, still writing down an order.

Which was when Aeryn came back with the check, oblivious.

John produced a few bills and handed them over. He also included a tip.

"I'll go finish up, meet you outside?" she asked.

"I'll see you there," John said, standing up and giving her a smile instead of a kiss. And then he was out the door with a smile for the hostess and a wave to Mark.

Which surprised them both.

A minute later, Aeryn came back outside the restaurant to join him. "Hi."

And John finally got to kiss her properly.

She was surprised at first, though she really shouldn't have been, so it took a moment to kiss him back, making sure she didn't squash the flowers at all. "Happy anniversary," she smiled, stayng close.
