NPC pet store, mainland, Saturday evening

After visiting Luke, Aeryn had gone back to 238 where in conversation with John she'd somehow made mention of the fish-shaped fishbowl Isabel had gotten her for Christmas. This led to the trip to the mainland, to the store that Bruno had come from because they really need another NPC, and when Aeryn steps inside the store, she pauses for a second.

"This is what Fandom will look like the day everyone turns into an animal at once," she says.

She smiles a little. "Didn't like that?" she asks, taking one hand away.

The puppy starts jumping at the glass trying to get to Aeryn.

"Sorry, you can't get through there," she informs him.

He looks mournfully at her.

"I'm sorry, but..." And she taps on the glass again to show him that it's solid.

He starts crying.

Aeryn loks a little alarmed and says, "What did I do?"

"I think he just wants to see you up close," John says.

The puppy looks at her and cries some more.

"But I'm right here," she says, and waves a little at the puppy to show him that.

"I think he wants more than just seeing you through glass," John says.

The puppy barks in agreement.

She just looks at John.

"What?"

"But he's behind glass," she says, having no idea that they can be taken out.

"He's not there permanently," John says. "If you want, we can ask someone if we can see him."

"That's a bad idea," Aeryn says, lowering her voice. "He'll be disappointed when he has to go back."

John actually agrees with that. "Say bye to him then. We should go pay before I demand we bring him home."

Aeryn picks up the fish bowl which had been handwavily put down and was not just hanging in midair omg and puts her hand back to the glass. "Bye," she tells him.

The puppy barks and cries and bounces at Aeryn's hand.

Dammit, she kind of feels bad leaving it. "Good luck," she says, and nods to John that they should go.

John waves and turns around, walking towards the cashier for real this time.

"It was very friendly," she says as they walk, trying not to feel guilty.

"He was," he says. "We'll get one soon. When we move."

Aeryn nods, putting the bowl up onto the counter so they can pay for it. Luckily the movement has kept the fish moving so she doesn't have to question if it's dead again.

The cashier rings up the fish and their other fish accessories and John hands some money over.

On the way out of the checkout line, Aeryn says, "It still doesn't have a name."
