Room 238, Thursday before classes

Aeryn woke up early enough, making sure she had enough time to be ready for class and to run through the stuff she'd missed. She's on the couch, mostly frowning at her book and thinking afterwards she'll have to stop by the junkyard. For repairs. Again.

"Why?"

"That you talked to a teacher of mine that I was hardly aware you knew about this." She doesn't sound mad, she's just trying to figure it out.

"I went there to talk to her about you," he says. "Because I know you like her."

"About me," Aeryn repeats. Anatomy was less confusing. "What about me?"

"About..." He paused. "I wanted some advice."

"About me?" she says again.

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because..." He pauses. "That's what I went there for, Aeryn. It turned into something else."

"Okay," she says, "what are you trying to tell me?"

"Just that I talked to someone," he says. "About...it all."

"I'm glad you're talking about it," Aeryn says. She's got no idea how this happened or why he wanted advice about her, but at least she understands part of it.

"I told her a lot," he said. "She said she'd keep it secret."

"She'd have to be good at those," she says quietly. "I'm seriously. It's good that you said something."

He shrugs. "It just kind of came out."

"Still, you talked about it. That's a lot." She never thought she'd be one to advocate talking, but one more person he was talking to was probably one more person talking sense at him.

He shrugs. "Yeah, I guess."

She's still dying to know why he talked to a teacher about him, but she's scared to push at the moment. "It is," she says.

"She's kinda nice," John says.

"She is," she says quietly. "I get to blow things up in that class."

"I know," he says and laughs. "I didn't want her to think I needed help blowing stuff up."

"I'd hate to see you around explosives anyway," she says, doing a pretty good job of faking normal and not bothered by anything.

"I wouldn't blow myself up," he says.

"I know," she says. Ignoring that that kind of hits her funny. "I should finish studying."

He frowns at her. "All right."
