The Apartment- Cambridge, MA- Monday evening

After handwavily saying goodbye to Rory and Anakin, Aeryn headed off for her first day of work. Well, first day of work at a regular job on Earth that she hadn't ended up in accidentally. The uniform was a little odd to her, but that was nothing compared to the buttons they attacked her with, and the little nametag that read "ERIN" that they promised to fix. She'd spent her morning following around a nice but cheerful coworker named Caitlin who kept trying to get her to smile and be friendlier to the customers and about the time she tried to explain the customer is always right thing, Aeryn wondered if this all wasn't a horrible mistake.

She's more than happy to get home, dropping her purse on the floor by the door because she doesn't care, fully intending to change clothes immediately.

John's first day of classes weren't too bad. Syllabuses, course introductions, text books, all that good stuff and done.

So, he's already home and just waiting for this. "Good day?"

She hated it like burning. She also doesn't want to say that after the first day, though, so after the briefest of pauses in which she takes off her shoes, she says, "It was all right. You?"

"Good," he said. "Spent some money, got to bust out my calculator. Tell me what you did."

"I followed someone around and took a few orders and was told to smile more." A lot. "What did you spend money on?"

"My books," he says, pointing to a large pile of books on the floor.

Aeryn stares. "You need that many?" she asks. Fandom High hadn't been big on texts in her classes.

"Yep," he says, resting his feet on top of the books. "That's college."

She's still staring. "Sorry. All the words just killed my brain."

"You should smile more," he says just because he can.

"I love you, too," she says, heading into the bedroom to change into something that's not this.

"Smile and everyone around you will too!" John called after her.

"Apparently it's a bad thing to tell people to frell off at work," she called back from the closet. "Except they look at me like they don't know what I just said. But apparently they still don't like it."

"Why did you tell someone to frell off?" John yelled back.

She comes back into the living room in a tank top and loose pants, curling up on the couch. "They told me to smile more."

"You're supposed to smile at customers," he says.

"Why? They're there for the food, not me."

"It's your job to serve them," he says.

"But they get the food no matter what my facial expression is," she says. "I miss having a job where I could carry a weapon. It made annoying people a lot easier to deal with."

"You don't get a weapon at the restaurant," John said hurriedly.

"I know," she said with a sigh. "But I can hope for one. Do you think you get in much trouble for killing your boss?"

He stared at her. "Yes, you'll go to jail. I am not having a wedding in jail."

"Already done that, anyway," she shrugs. "How are classes?"

"You already had a wedding in jail?" he asks, staring.

"Been to jail. It's amazing enough I'm getting married once, don't think I'd do it twice."

"Oh." He let himself relax again. "Classes are fine so far. Only the first day."
