The Apartment, Cambridge MA- Tuesday afternoon

They'd waited a while to bring Talyn home, mostly because Aeryn didn't really want to subject a newborn to intergalactic space travel just yet. However, they couldn't hang out in the Uncharted Territories forever, and it was actually a really good idea not to stay there for too long, and that meant it was time to bring the baby back finally.

Having become nicely- and wholly- attached, Aeryn was still holding Talyn as they walked into the apartment. "Welcome home," she told him, not caring that he had no idea what she was saying.

John was right behind her, laden with bags, face plastered with a huge smile. "Is he asleep? Is he awake? Is he okay?"

"Still asleep, and he's fine," Aeryn assured him. "Of course, as soon as the trip's over he falls right to sleep."

"Well, that's a baby for you," he said and set their bags gently down. "How are you?"

"Fine," she said, sounding like she wasn't sure why he was asking. She took a seat on the sofa and said, "Maybe we should have told your sisters ahead of time. He'd have somewhere right to sleep."

"He'll be fine for a bit with what we have," he said, taking a seat beside her. "Don't worry."

"I'm not worried," she said. "I just want him to be comfortable."

"We have lots of pillows and blankets," John assured her. "He looks pretty comfortable right where he is too."

"I think our bed will do just fine for now," Aeryn told him. "Have you considered what you're going to tell your family?"

"The truth," he said, relaxing on the couch, "or as close to it as I can come."

"Well, yes, I figure the baby would be a bit of a tip-off," she said. "Do you think it'll be a problem that we didn't warn them?"

"I think they'll understand," he tried to reassure her. "If not, well, they just don't get to see the cute baby."

"That's just mean," she said, smiling down at Talyn.

"It'd be their fault," John said, reaching over to touch Talyn's little fingers with one of his.

Talyn opened his eyes a little blearily, looking around but not really taking anything in yet.

"Hi baby boy," John said quietly. "Hello there."

He didn't respond much, due to the whole being two weeks old thing, but he did look up toward the voice.

"Do you want him?" Aeryn offered quietly.

"If you think you can give him up, yeah, I'll hold him," John said.

She had to every now and then, if only because she didn't want the poor child growing up not recognizing that guy that lived here with him and Mum. Carefully, she handed Talyn over to him.

"Yay," John said quietly, taking the baby and cradling him gently against his chest.

Settling back, Aeryn just watched them for the moment, smiling.

"Mommy says I can't call you Tiger," he told Talyn conspiratorially.

"No, you definitely can't," she said immediately.

"But it's such an awesome nickname," John teased.

"His real name is just fine," Aeryn insisted. She knew how he was with names. Yes, she was taking him seriously.

"I'll call you something secret," John told Talyn, bringing him closer to kiss his head. "Just between you and me."

While Talyn did little more than blink, Aeryn was definitely listening.

"And we'll come up with a nickname for Mom too," John promised.

"No you won't," she told him immediately.

John pretended not to hear her. "And maybe one for Grandpa too."

"And that you will have to take up with him..."

"But Mom first," he said and kissed Talyn again.

"I fear what you'll be telling him when he's old enough to listen," Aeryn said.

"I will never stop talking," he admitted happily.

"Though if it could have less to do with nicknames..."

"We'll see," he said and rocked Talyn some.

She was so ready for her turn again, but she would be good. "Need anything?" she asked.

"I'm good," he said and did some quiet coo'ing and face making to the baby.
