Aeryn hadn't had great experiences with Parents Weekends in the past, but it was interesting seeing it from a different perspective. And without drama. That would be really new.

Her door was open and she was doing work, mostly to look busy in case anyone came by wanting to to talk about their family members/friends. Or, you know, is any parents were wondering what the frell her class title meant.

Karla tapped on the office door. "This is another of my teachers," she said to the males with her. "She teaches Fandom Versus the Real World."

"Excuse me? Professor Sun? May we come in?"

Looking up from her busy work, Aeryn gave her a little smile. "Of course. Come in."

Saetan stood behind Karla, raising an eyebrow at the curious subject this professor taught. He waited for the Karla to respond, watching her closely the whole time.

Karla entered, followed by two men, one a younger, blond male who bore a strong resemblance to Karla herself and a handsome, older manmost people would assume was just past his prime. Aeryn, being who and what she was, would probably notice the way they oriented themselves around her, keeping her in the protected middle, the way the scanned the room briefly with the air of habit so inbred it became instinct, and even the way they moved, with a warrior's graceful economy of movement.

"Professor Sun, may I have the honor of introducing you to my uncle, Prince Saetan Daemon Sadiablo and my cousin, Lord Morton." Karla asked. "Morton, Uncle Saetan, Professor Aeryn Sun."

Aeryn's first thought was to wonder if they were maybe bodyguards with that positioning, or at least served as such. "It's a pleasure to meet you," she said, as pleasantly as she was capable of. "Karla's been an excellent addition to my class."

Saetan nodded at the woman. He noticed that she was trying hard to be pleasant, and became less wary when he remembered whom the professor had to teach. "Professor Sun," he greeted. "I hope Karla hasn't been causing you too much trouble."

"Might as well wish for the sun to rise in the west," Morton muttered under his breath.

Karla scowled at Morton. "Clean the wax out of your ears," she hissed at Morton. "She said I was an excellent addition to her class. Or were there just too many syllables for you to understand."

"If she was a problem, you would be hearing about it right now," she assured them, trying and mostly filing to ignore the muttering and hissing even though it amused her. "Please, sit."

There were two chairs in front of her desk, and another slightly off to the side for just this reason.

Saetan took the first chair and waited for Karla to settle beside him, Morton taking the chair slightly off to the side. Even seated, the two males were flanking Karla.

"Professor Sun, Karla has told me very little about her classes here. What exactly does 'Fandom Versus the Real World' entail?"

Karla sat down, giving Morton an amused glance. She saw what he was doing there. Then she turned and gave Professor Sun her full attention, doing her best to look demure and quiet.

"This town attracts people from all walks of life," Aeryn said. Which was a polite, vague way of putting it. "They may find that things are a bit different here than what they expect from home, or whatever they're used to. Much of the time the students tend to suffer from a bit of culture shock, so my class is designed to teach how to adjust to new experiences and how it may relate to other settings."

Not bad for the least diplomatic person ever, if she said so herself.

Saetan knew Fandom was full of very different people, but only now did he come to appreciate that some of the students who attended the school were different in their home Territories. And perhaps it was only by being here that they finally felt like they belonged. He relaxed more fully, knowing that Karla had found her place here.

"It seems like you have quite a difficult job," he said, finding great respect for the woman before him, "trying to ensure that your students are comfortable with each other and themselves. I trust that Karla has been progressing well under your guidance."

Karla flushed a bit and stayed quiet. It was weird being spoken about in third person.

"I have a good class," Aeryn said with no small amount of pride. "I'm sure everyone has their difficulties with certain things, Karla included, but she seems to be adjusting pretty well from what I can see. The fact that she hasn't run screaming yet says a lot." Oh, look, even a little smile there!
