"It's funny, but every time John and I fight, I have someone telling me how much he loves me. I don't need to be told that."

She pauses, shucking one of the gloves off her hand, then the other. "I always had a feeling you didn't like me, but thought I was being paranoid. So how much of the time you and I spent together afterwards actually had anything to do with me?"

Lee's taken aback at this. "It had everything to do with you, Aeryn. I wanted to get to know you better, figure out why it was that my best friend was head over heels for you. I know that now."

That wouldn't sting except for the fact that the kiss had happened first. She'll let that go, though. "Why did it happen?" she asks.

Lee's a bit confused. "The Lee-Wants-To-Get-To-Know-Aeryn-Better thing or the kissing thing?"

"The kissing thing." She hates that she can call it that.

Lee goes for honesty as he is a man of principles… okay, a teenager of principles at the moment. “Well, I hardly remember it,” he says, “It was after that weekend where Parker made John think he was Cameron and Cameron think he was John or something or whatever. And they were just furious afterwards and John wanted to get drunk. One generous helping of ambrosia too many and…it happened. Nothing was meant by it, nothing came out of it.” He pauses. “And I swear by everything holy that there has been no repeat of such events. John’s my best friend. End of story.”

Aeryn nods slowly, and with a couple days to have thought this over, she can't find anything to get angry about in that. Well, she can, but it's nothing she hasn't aready thought about. "Thanks for, um. Being honest."

Lee backs away a little. "So... um... again, I'm sorry that this just came out so ridiculously a couple of days ago. I really don't want this to come between you and John. Really."

Another nod. "I know."

"Okay," he says, starting to feel a bit more comfortable, "so are you going to forgive John, or not?"

She shrugs as she goes to put her gloves away. "That depends," she says, though she's not sure what it depends on.

"I'll see you later," she says, and heads out.

Lee watches her leave and feels uneasy all over again.
