Room 209, Sunday afternoon

After a trip into town and then some time spent shooting things because she can, Aeryn decides she might as well do some other things she's been putting off, and checks to see if her E-mail access had been restored. Not that she likes E-mail anyway, or figured anyone would be sending her anything.

Half and hour and about forty spam messages later (and don't think that has improved her opinion of the human race at all), she's back in 209, wondering if she should even attempt this party thing. On one hand, she's glad Angel is all right and she wouldn't expect any conversation there to be about her. These are both good things. On the other hand... The words "too much too soon" spring to mind.

She'll worry about it later. For now she's taking a break from the makeup work to finish the other book Anders gave her before she left. And sometimes taking a break from that to wonder if the sea monkeys have been fed this week.


[Which is totally code for I haven't played in a whole DAY and my girl is still being antisocial. Door's closed but I welcome knocks. *nodding*]

If there's something Cameron's learning from Kawalsky being gone, it's that he has a hard time being alone and no one seems to like the gym much on a Sunday aternoon. So he bites the bullet, grabs an excuse from his desk and knocks on the door of the room that he thinks he saw Aeryn exit the first time he saw her after she got back.

Never count on Aeryn just yelling for someone to come in. Instead she picks the book up and goes to open the door herself. "Hi," she says, a little surprised to see Cameron there.

"Yo," he says realising that this is sort of a first. He bounces on the balls of his feet and because he's not sure if she'd let him in without an excuse, he holds out the box with Microsoft Flight Simulator. "Came to see if you were bored."

She frowns at the box. "What is that?" she asks.

"It's a computer game, it lets you fly planes. No fighters like Anakin's game and the choice is pretty limited as it's Earth based, but it's pretty realistic when it comes to controls..." He scratches the back of his neck and shrugs cause maybe this was lame.

"Um. I'm not really a pilot anymore," she reminds him. Aeryn does realize he's trying, but at the same time this suddenly feels like one less thing they have in common.

"Oh," Cameron lowers the box and stares at it for a moment, frowning. It takes about one second for him to regroup his thoughts. "I don't buy it."

She pauses, and says, "What?"

"I don't buy it," he says stubbornly. "You don't just turn that off. A few months ago you were missing your prowler and maybe you don't right now because of all the bad stuff that suddenly has popped up when you think about it, but once you get over that you'll want to be in a cockpit again."

She stares, not expecting that. "So I'm going to just get over this and want to go back to the way things were?" she asks, and there might be a warning tone to her voice.

"No! That's," he shakes his head and sighs. "That's not what I meant. I'm not talking about the peacekeepers or anything that has to do about them. I'm talking about flying, you don't have to be with them to be able to do it. There's so much choice when you want to fly. You can fly civilian planes," he held up the box, "you can spray crops, you can be a test pilot, do aerial stunts, fly a balloon if you'd prefer going slow... and that's just on Earth."

"I like shooting things," she says. "And I think a thorough enough medical exam would take me out of the running for that. If not worse." And she can't even touch that last part of what he said. She just can't.

Right. Alien. He kinda keeps forgetting the rest of the world isn't aware of them. "Janet can probably fake your file," he says. "And you look pretty much the same so..."

After Cameron

Before heading to Angel's party, John tucks the sea monkeys under his arm and heads to Aeryn's room so they can visit. He's got the food tucked in his pocket again.

He knocks quietly and waits.

She answers the door, sees who it is, and lets him in without a word, settling back into a cross-legged position on her bed.

"Hey," he says slowly, setting the sea monkeys on her desk. "Thought you might want to see the little guys. I brought their food so you could feed them."

"Thanks," she says quietly, looking up just to watch them from where she's sitting.

John kicks her door closed with his foot and puts their food next to their tank. "Everything okay?"

She considers how to answer that for a moment, and shrugs. "Nothing's different," she says.

"You weren't this quiet the other day," he says. "What's happened?"

She could shrug again and not answer, but she knows that isn't productive, and all it will do is make her feel four years old and stupid. "I found weapons hidden in the Prowler," she begins.

John frowns at that. "Weapons? You brought some back with you?"

"Apparently. They don't exactly give you things like that while you're under arrest." Not that she isn't glad to have them.

"Okay." He scratches his neck just for something to do. "Did finding them...upset you?"

"Not at all," she says, and if she's hesitant about saying more, it's because she really doesn't think he wants to hear about it. "They would have been put there by the person who helped me escape."
