Room 209, Sunday afternoon/evening

After leaving Sanctity, Aeryn's really impressively agitated. She's on the phone as soon as she's out the door, heading back to the dorms.

And once she's back there, she opens the door to 209 and waits.

Aeryn looks a little concerned, because yawns aren't supposed to hurt. "Did you have a favorite?" she wonders.

"Um. I liked being the dog most, I think. I got to talk to Vladdie," John says, trying to keep everything normal.

"You talked to the vampire puppy?" asks Aeryn, who doesn't think she heard that part.

"Yes," John replies. "Or he talked to me. Whatever, I talked to Vladdie. He's nice. Uppity but nice."

Aeryn's trying really hard not to smile. "Rory's vampire puppy is uppity. I would never have guessed."

"You should put the pictures up," John presses. "I think it'd be cool."

"Maybe," she says. "I could always start a book."

"What about the corner?" John asks quickly. A little too quickly.

She pauses, and frowns. "I'll find something," she says slowly. "What is it about that corner?"

"Nothing," he says immediately and curls in to himself a little more. "I was just asking."

She really doesn't believe that.

So she stands up, pulls the chair out from under the desk, and pushes the desk into the corner. It blocks the door, but fine. She can move it back later.

"You're blocking the door," John points out. "We're kinda trapped now."

"Then I'll move it when one of us leaves," she shrugs. "I could move it back..."

"No!" John shakes his head quickly. "No. Can I shower?"

She's frowning a little again, but nods. "Of course."

So, he slips inside her bathroom and turns the water on hot. Really hot. And he lets all the revelations wash away, lets the thought of being tortured wash away and lets the shadows wash away.

He steps out of the bathroom without his shirt and his skin is blotchy red.

When he gets out, Aeryn's stuck the polar bear pictures up in the corner, above the desk. They won't be visible when the door's open, but he's being really weird about this. Besides, if she's here, the door's probably closed anyway.

She gets a look at his skin, and has no idea what to say. So she tries, "Good shower?'

"Yeah." He does grin at the pictures. "I like those."

"The real thing doesn't look like the drawing," she shrugs, looking at them instead of him so she doesn't have to worry about a reaction.

He doesn't answer that, choosing instead to sit at the foot of her bed.

A triumphant cheer! The ring toss is won! Picked your stuffed animal!

John actually makes a sound this time, jerking his head away from the noise.

Aeryn pressesher lips together, watching him, and asks, "What is going on." Except it's not entirely a question.

"Nothing," he says, opening his eyes and shaking his head. "Lingering headache."

"It's just a headache," he repeats and climbs back up onto her bed to lay on his stomach. "That's all."

She's quiet for a moment, but nods and says, "Okay." Because she has no idea what else to do.
