OOC: Aeryn info
Oct. 5th, 2005 06:08 pmJust to let you know, my Internet connection has been sketchy at best, and if I'm interacting with you and I drop off the face of the high school, that's why. (This goes for Aeryn, Jaye and Quinn.) If it's a plot like last night, let me be part of the background unless you really need me.
Anyway, the real reason for this is that A) I was actually asked a backstory question last night and forgot my backstory for a second, and 2) I was bored waiting for my connection to come back, and D) all the cool kids are doing it, and I am a sheep. Baa.
Aeryn comes from the wonderful world of Farscape (which I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it). She's Sebacean, which is probably a genetic offshoot of human, and except for a few little differences (don't turn up the heat on the poor girl, and be careful where you stab her) you can't tell the difference. She was born into the Peacekeepers, which is a sort of galactic military, and PK's are not well liked among other species. She's a soldier and a Prowler pilot, the kind of girl who was raised to believe that she's supposed to die fighting. She's a little attached to her weapons and is very much of the "Shoot first and ask questions never" kind of philosophy. She's a fighter, though I don't remember a lot of instances in canon where she didn't get her ass kicked at least a little.
And then whoosh, she gets sucked along with a living ship called Moya during starburst in the Premiere episode, is deemed irreversibly contaminated for being around John Crichton, and has to go on the run with all the other escaped prisoners on Moya. As the series goes on, she ends up losing the racist? speciesist? attitude of "my species is better than yours, nyah", essentially turns her back completely on the Peacekeepers, and basically grows out of this box that she used to live in. And of course there's the on-again-off-again-on-again-off-again-on-again-off-again-ness of her and John, which... I think has been captured pretty well at FH. *g* Whatever. OT-frelling-P.
The Peacekeepers sent some of their people to get an education at special schools, and Aeryn ended up here. Yes, I know it's lame. Yes, I know that the PK's are more apt to keep their people from being educated at all so they don't start questioning orders and things, but I've been asked the "why are you here?" question once so far, so I'll stick with the lame backstory.
What was supposed to be a 16-year-old Peacekeeper kind of shifted into AU!Aeryn when she started interacting with other Farscape characters. This Aeryn has never been on Moya (this is even pre-TWWW, for you fans out there) but she knows Chiana and she and John are together. The way I'm playing her is kind of parallel to what happens on the show. At this point in time, Aeryn's still a military brat. She's (just a little) violent when provoked and is distrustful of things like science (though once you get past her whining that it's tech work, she actually doesn't suck at it) and is used to the kind of unthinking hivemind that happens when you have a bunch of similar people living together. She'll get past it.
Oh, and she swears in Farscapese (a lot- I bet no one asked "what does 'frell' mean?" more than once). And technically speaking she can only understand you because of the translator microbes in her brain and the fact that anyone but Chiana can understand her is a detail I'm willing to fudge. And she can't read or write English, but she's trying to learn in her spare time.
The people that Aeryn's been hanging with are mainly the ones that she would hang out with, because that's what she knows. She likes the barracks-style dorm life and is willing to meet new people, but you'll probably have to approach her. She's not exactly friendly. It doesn't mean she'll like you, but she'll give you a try. Group activities are more likely to get her there than one-on-one conversations. She doesn't understand a lot about Earth and is figuring it out and faking it, and if you purposely mess with her you better hope she never finds out.
Now let's see if this posts. *headdesk*
