NPC pet store, mainland, Saturday evening

After visiting Luke, Aeryn had gone back to 238 where in conversation with John she'd somehow made mention of the fish-shaped fishbowl Isabel had gotten her for Christmas. This led to the trip to the mainland, to the store that Bruno had come from because they really need another NPC, and when Aeryn steps inside the store, she pauses for a second.

"This is what Fandom will look like the day everyone turns into an animal at once," she says.

The bouncy boy in blue isn't deterred. "Do you have a hamster? I have a hamster. His name's Petey and I'd recommend anything in this aisle to keep top notch care of your hamster."

The boy frowns. "You look lost. We have some delightful pooper scoopers on sale for half off!"

John chimes in this time. "Better listen to her. She will."

At that, the bouncy boy in a blue smock trudges away.

"Damn, Aeryn, you hurt his feelings."

"He wouldn't stop talking," says Aeryn, who probably thinks that was asking nicely for him to stop. "I don't need a hampster." Yes, she pronounces the P and everything.

John laughs and watches bouncy boy go commiserate with his fellow employees. "I think he's over there talking bad about you."

"So?" And down here is lizards, and... "That turtle looks like Yoda."

She hasn't seen many turtles.

Another employee trundles up, this one bigger and wearing a scowl.

Aeryn looks over, and is still more focused on the turtle.

"You threaten my friend?" Big and Burly asks.

John steps back. He just wants to watch.

She sighs, bored. "And you're going to what, threaten me now?"

"He just wanted to help you," Big and Burly says.

"He wouldn't shut the frell up," she says. "That wasn't helpful."

"You drunk or something?"

She just frowns at him.

"Don't be so hard on someone who's trying to help you," he says and then walks away.

"Maybe if they would learn to listen," Aeryn grumbles, maybe a little loudly.

John just shakes his head. "Making friends wherever you go, huh?"

"What?" she asks. Yeah, she kind of still sucks at social interactions.

He laughs and starts walking back towards the fish. "Come on, my dearest girlfriend."

The word 'dearest' in regards to her gets an eyeroll, and she heads on after him, kind of surprised at how many tanks they can cram into such a little space. "I've been in an aquarium," she says. "But that was more spaced out."

"This isn't like an aquarium," he says, shaking his head. "Those are big fish, special aquariums. We're not fishologists."

"I know," she says, looking into the tanks. "But they had sharks, too. Bigger than Bruno."

"We don't have enough room for their type of tanks," John says. "And Bruno's a good size!"
