Room 238, Tuesday morning

Aeryn's up early- big shock- but for some reason today she can only lay there so long. There are days when even she feels more active than others. So she gets up, going to feed the sea monkeys, the shark, and the as-yet-unnamed fish. One day she'll come up with a name for it, seriously.

John wakes up but doesn't leave the bed, choosing instead to tuck one arm under his head and watch her feed their massive array of animals.

After tapping on the glass of the fish tank to make sure the fighting fish really is alive- yep- she covers all the food and only notices John when she turns around. "Hey," she greets him quietly.

"Hi," he says. "Everyone still alive over there?"

"So far. The new fish seems to worry me, though," she says, walking over.

"Why?"

"It goes very still. Sometimes you have to shake the bowl a little before he'll move."

"Unless he's floating on top of the water, don't worry."

"I'll try to avoid it," she says. "How are you?"

"Okay," he says, yawning. "You?"

She takes a seat on the bed and says, "Good. Still tired?"

"Not really," he says, shrugging. "I'll be fine today."

She reaches out and touches his cheekbone lightly. "You sure?"

"Yeah," he says, smiling. "I slept last night. Yesterday was slack." Well, not entirely but that was for later.

She's a little worried that after a year and a half on Earth, she's still hearing new phrases. "It was slack?"

"Means not too hard," he says. "Slow."

"Oh," she says. "No Ethics trauma this week?"

Dammit.

"Uh, not really."

"Good," she says hopefully. "Maybe he's finally... lightening up?" She's not really sure of that phrasing either, but she's heard it before.

John scoffed. "Yeah, sure he is."

She frowns and asks, "Did something happen?"

Yes. "I just don't see that guy as lightening up," he says. "He's just a bastard."

"He might," she says. "It's no guarantee, but he might."

"I'm glad you have faith in him," John says. "I don't. He's a bastard who hates everything."

"Yes, of course, how could I not have noticed," she says dryly.
