Room 238, Monday night

After a weekend of weetiny blondes and babysitting a Sith lord, Aeryn's really glad to only be dealing with them as adults now. Of course, she might revise that the next time she sees Emma.

For now, though, she's content to sit on the couch with her anatomy textbook, occasionally sounding out the words involved with the lymphatic system. Which sounds really interesting sometimes.

John wanders over and leans against the back of the couch. "Whatcha got there?"

"Anatomy," she says, frowning at it. "It's the..." She tries reading the word more than remembering it. "Lym- phat. Lymphatic system."

"Good job," he says when she says it right. "Getting better all the time."

"The entire English language is insane," she says conversationally.

"I know," he says but leans closer and kisses her cheek before pressing his own cheek against hers.

"Did you play nicely with the adults today?" she asks, not moving.

"Yep," he says with a nod. "I didn't even bother Vader."

"Good," she says quickly, because she'd seen the kid cry. And watched cartoons with him. "You'd have had detention until graduation."

"Did you play nice with the adults today?"

"I didn't really see anyone except for Aly at the Perk, and yes I did," she says. "And she doesn't seem at all upset about the weekend, which is good."

"Not embarrassed?"

"Didn't seem to be," she says. "Though I'm glad my next week doesn't involve trying to infiltrate Blood Gulch Arms with a watergun."

"She seemed to really like you," John says. He kisses her cheek again.

She shrugs a little, but says, "She wasn't so bad herself. I suppose it depends on the child." Okay, so she'd liked the ones she'd dealt with. Shut up.

"It does," he says. "Some are bad, some are good and some are in between."

"I'd rather the good ones," she says, putting her feet up on the table. "They're easy."

He laughs in her ear, quietly.

"What?" she asks.

"Nothing," he says and comes around to sit next to her. "Just laughing."

"Yes, but why?" she presses, leaning against him.

"Because I like that the kids liked you," he admits, sliding an arm across her shoulders.

"That doesn't mean they all would." Or will.

"I know," he says. "But I like that some did."
