The flipside of getting a chance to go out and help save a friend and hurt some things in the process was that afterwards, it was back to normal things, like filling out job applications in front of the TV and feeling uncomfortable in the current style of clothes. There might have been a little part of her that wondered if it would be wrong to wear a pulse pistol around the apartment, just for the night.

"Ow!" He frowned at her. "No violence."

"It's me," she reminded him, thinking that said everything.

"No violence," he chided and frowned at her. "Or no more massage."

She sighed like this was the hardest thing ever, but said, "No violence. For now."

"Thank you," he said and patted her legs. "I appreciate being spared your violent tendencies."

"For now," she repeated, in case he'd missed that part.

"Wasn't no more violence in the vows?" John teased.

"I'm sure if it was, I would have skipped that part," she grinned.

John laughed and shook his head. "If they had been, I probably would've been just as surprised as you."

"So would the entire audience," she said, running her foot over his knee just because she could.

"It might've been fun to slip that in to see what they'd do," he said, smiling at her.

She raised an eyebrow. "I'd have to wonder what your family would say to that."

"Please," he said and waved a hand. "They know all about you and violence."

"I'm not that ba- Okay, fine," she conceded.

"And they don't mind," he said, patting her leg again. "They love you anyway."

"Good. They're stuck with me now."

"Forever and ever and ever," he said, sounding happy about that.

Aeryn smiled at that. "You sound pleased about that now..."

"Well, I love you," he said easily. "Of course I'm pleased."

"Good answer," she said. And poked him with her toe again.

"You're pokey tonight," he observed, amused.

"Maybe I just thought you needed to be poked," she said, not sure herself.
