The flipside of getting a chance to go out and help save a friend and hurt some things in the process was that afterwards, it was back to normal things, like filling out job applications in front of the TV and feeling uncomfortable in the current style of clothes. "Well, I love you," he said easily. "Of course I'm pleased."

"Good answer," she said. And poked him with her toe again.

"You're pokey tonight," he observed, amused.

"Maybe I just thought you needed to be poked," she said, not sure herself.

"Why do I need to be poked?"

"You're asking me?" she said, and did it again.

"Yes," he said, frowning. "Why do I need to be poked?"

"Because you haven't been in a while?" she tried.

"But I'm being all nice and cute," he said and tried to look cute.

She smiled. "You think that saves you?" Notice how it wasn't a denial.

"Yes," he said and moved a little closer to her. "I do."

"It doesn't," she informed him. But it usually got him other things, so.

"Me being cute doesn't do anything for you?"

"I never said you were," she said, but that smile said something else.

"Liar," he said, crawling closer and nuzzling her neck.

"Am not," she countered, but slid a hand around to rest on his back,

"You are," he said and bit her neck lightly.

She gasped, smiling. "You seem to be hitting on me," she noticed.

"I have to hit on my own wife?" John asked, licking the area he'd just bitten. And maybe he just liked calling her that.

"I didn't say you had to," she said, her other hand already sneaking just under his shirt.
