Okay, maybe there are better ways to end a phone call. But all Aeryn needs to hear are the words "Darla" in conjunction with "bad news" and she's leaving 209 to head down the hall and knock on John's door.

John's trying to get Sean to stay on his bed and rest when Aeryn knocks on his door.

"Stay buddy," John says, nodding at the dog. "It'll be okay. Stay."

He makes sure Sean stays before coming over and opening the door. "Come on in," he says.

Aeryn does, automatically looking over the door to make sure it closes right, and going to the window to make sure of the same thing. "What happened with Darla?" she asks.

"She attacked Angel," John says. He knows this is a touchy subject with her and he's not gonna push it. "Told him she had a soul, lured him over there and staked him in the shoulder. He's...he's really sick now," John says, shaking his head. "And Darla's MIA."

This feels almost familiar. Huh. "Where's Angel, and how sick is sick?" she asks.

"Angel's at the clinic in town," John tells her. "He collapsed last night. And, according to Veronica, he's really sick. They don't know what's wrong with him."

This does really not make Aeryn happy. "At lease she shouldn't be back here," she says. Doesn't stop her from looking the room over to make sure it's secure, though.

"Yeah." John heads back over to sit on his bed and scritch Sean's fur. "I wanted you to hear it from me before the radio or anyone else. I'll be okay."

She nods, and folds her arms over her chest. "It should be said that pulse weapons won't kill a vampire, but it will slow them down," she says, because she needs to give something, and that's what comes to mind.

"It's still in the locker," John says, not looking at her. "I don't wanna use it."

"I know," she tells him. "But if you need to, it's there."

"Yeah," he says, patting Sean on the back and tucking a leg underneath him. "How're you?"

At the moment, freaked out and slightly paranoid. But she's not sure what the answer to that question even is, so she just shrugs a little. She's not trying to be difficult, there's just no way to say it.

"Hm." He decides to just concentrate on Sean and trying to get him to sleep. "Still hurt?"

"Good enough for the gym," she says, though she did make herself bleed, so she'll be avoiding it for a day or two.

"The gym?" John's head whips up at that. "Should you be doing that? I saw the blood. That was a lot of blood. I thought you were supposed to rest for a week."

"I know my limits," says Aeryn, and she does. It's just that sometimes she chooses to completely ignore them.

"Of course you do," he says quietly and rubs at his temple. "How's everything else?"

Aeryn pauses, and doesn't answer with anything more than a "Hm."

Looking at his hand, she asks, "How are you feeling?"

He shakes his head slightly. "Fine," he says automatically. "Fine. It's healing fine."

"What about the feet?" she asks.

John just shrugs. "I'll live."

That gets his attention. "What? You wanna see my feet?"

"I want to see how bad it is," Aeryn clarifies. "Your hand, too."

"Um." He decides not to argue and takes his socks off slowly. His feet are still cut but he hates the bandages so there's none on them. The cuts are small but there are a lot due to the amount of glass stepped on. "Okay, there."
