Room 209, Wednesday night

It might be things brought up when she was little, or the panic the last day at the thought that this planet might actually be frelled up enough to consider marriage between a five-year-old and a seven-year-old legal, or maybe even things she said in the interview with D'Anna, but Aeryn's just feeling quiet. It's not good, it's not bad, just... she's thinking.

And tossing the driver's ed manual in her closet, right by prom's pointy shoes. She's pretty sure she can pass it anyway. As long as they're driving real cars.

John sighs and rubs a hand through his hair.

"Anything's worth discussing," he tells her. "Tell me."

"I don't know," Aeryn says. "Honestly."

"Okay. So, tell me what you're thinking about then. What's going through your head."

She sighs. "I don't know. It's a weekend full of children and panicking over being married for a day and realizing how long I've been here, and it's just a lot of things."

He nods and leans back a little.

"Are you upset about these things or confused or something else?"

"Yes and no and I don't know," she says. "See, this is another reason against that talking thing..."

"Okay." He shakes his head. "Tell me what's going through your head right now. Whatever you're thinking, just vocalize them."

"I'm not good at that sort of thing," she insists.

"Try," he insists.

"Right now I'm thinking I can't come up with anything," she says.

John half smiles.

"All right. When you're ready." He scoots up onto her bed and lounges against it. "Come lay down."

She's really not used to him not pushing on things like this. Once she gets over the surprise that she shouldn't have, she obliges, laying with him on the bed.

He slips an arm around her shoulders, tucking her close to his side and starts rubbing her shoulder.

"Tired?"

It's comfortable like this. "Well, you kept trying to make me think," she teases.

"Thinking's the brain's way of exercising," John teases back.

"I think I'll stick to the gym," she says, turning her head to kiss his jaw.

"And I think I'll just watch you stick to the gym. It's pretty," he says, tilting his face towards hers a little.

She laughs softly at that. "It's pretty?" she repeats.

"Yep." He nods solemnly. "You plus sweating in the gym equals pretty."

"You've never had to go to the gym to see me sweating," she reminds him.

He grins and kisses her forehead. "True. Not in the gym sweating is an even prettier sight."

"And I'm much more likely to see you sweating at the same time," she teases.

That draws an even bigger grin and his hand is stroking her neck now.

"Am I pretty when I sweat?"

She reaches for his other hand and says, "I like it. A lot."

"Hm." He leans in and kisses her lightly. "That so?"
