Aeryn's learned that some dates have meaning, that the time between one yearly milestone and the next can be a really big deal. Thinking from last August 13 to this one, making it through an entire year almost deserves a congratuations.

Which is why she's seriously pissed off that the little blonde bitch with the stupid name that she never remembers called in sick again and didn't get anyone to cover for her, which means Aeryn is pulling a double shift on her anniversary and trying really hard not to threaten customers or coworkers.

John laughed and said, "I don't want to keep you. I'll just make googly eyes at you while you work."

Aeryn shrugged. "I haven't actually gotten a break since this morning and people don't usually come in at this time," she said.

"Oh." He smiled. "Can I meet some of your coworkers? I can tell them my name's Felipe Van de Velde!"

"If you're going to do that, you're definitely not meeting them," Aeryn said, more or less joking.

"Okay, I can be John," he said and took a sip of his milkshake. "Get Mark back over here."

"What is your obsession with Mark? And you're going to get that all over your false face hair."

"No obsession," he laughed. "I just want to freak him out some more with my pancake requests."

"I think I'll let him do some actual work, thanks," she said. "I can't wait to see what sort of questions he asks about you later..."

"Lemme meet someone else then!" John said, bouncing in his seat.

"No, I kind of hate them," Aeryn said, voice lowered.

"All of them?" John asked, offering her some milkshake.

"I'm not much of a people person," she explained, sipping a little of the milkshake when she was sure no one was watching before giving it back.

"Are the customers bad?"

"Worse than most days," she answered. "Three birthdays, at least eight children and about as many neglectful or annoying parents and not enough staff to handle it all."

He grinned up at her. "I love you, honey."

"I love you, too," she said, smiling back softly. "What was that for?"

"Because I can."

She made another move for the wig. "I'd like to see you," she said.

He laughed and pulled the wig, mustache and glasses off, dropping them on the floor. "Ta da!"

John waved to Mark for fun and offered Aeryn some more milkshake.

She shook her head and said, "You're just determined to make friends, aren't you?"

"If I was determined to make friends, I do this," he said and stood up to wave at the hostess near the door.

The hostess frowned and waved back, giving Aeryn a wtf face. Aeryn wouldn't have been able to explain it anyway.

"I'd go see if your food is ready, but I'm afraid to leave you alone," she said.
