Room 238, Monday morning

After yesterday's talk with Vader, Aeryn pretty much went into quiet avoidy mode. It wasn't even that the talk had gone badly; in fact he'd only yelled once. But still, hearing those words out of Anakin's mouth was disconcerting, at best.

Which is today's excuse for why she didn't really sleep, and why she's finally starting to get out of bed. Hey, if she's going to be awake, might as well put that to use for something like breakfast.

"He's also prone to things like desk throwing when he hears something he doesn't like, and can be... difficult at times," she says.

"I'll be fine," he says absently.

"I know," she says. Mostly because she's pretty sure Anakin would know that John not being fine would mean all bets are off. Plus, he probably falls into the category of people that wouldn't get hurt, really. "He also loves giving out detentions, so remember that if you like your Saturdays."

"Right," he says, nodding. "Right, sure."

"And I'll be talking to him more," she says, because she might as well get that right out. "I think I'm okay to do so now."

That prickles him and he tries not to let it show. "Fine."

"It's okay," she says. "If it wasn't, I would tell you."

He's not really sure she would tell him. "Okay," he says and shrugs.

She'd been expecting more of an argument. "Really?"

He shrugged again. "I wouldn't win and you'd still go."

She pauses, dealing with the food before answering. "I'm being as honest as I can about what's happening, John. There's more to it than I can say. I honestly don't think I'm in any danger. I just want you to know."

"It's fine," he says, stumbling out of bed and rubbing his face. He's not sure why he's so bothered by all this all the sudden. He just can't help feeling what else is being kept from him.

Aeryn doesn't believe that, and watches him for a moment before nodding and turning the stove off.

He rubs his face once more before sliding on a pair of pants and a shirt.

She puts a plate together for him and says, "It's ready."

"Thanks," he says, taking the plate and heading over to the couch.

"Is Ethics your only class today?" she asks, making a plate for herself.

"Yep," he says. "Two tomorrow."

"Same here," she says, coming to sit next to him. "One of them is Aly's class, though, so I'm looking forward to that."

"More spy stuff?"

"It's about revolutions, actually," she says.

"Hm." He must've missed that one. "Sounds right up your alley."

She'd deny it if she wasn't trying to get a servant of a tyrant to renounce that sort of thing and make it better. "She's a good teacher and I actually used some of what I learned in the last class in Criminal Justice, so I know it's useful."

"Good," he says, nodding and taking a bite of his breakfast. "It's good."

"Thanks," she says. "If that's all we have to do in Home Ec I should pass easily."
